Introduction
Hollywood Park is an innovative urban mixed-use development community in Inglewood, California. At nearly 300 acres, it is home to high-end residential units, A-list retailers, big-draw events, engaging street entertainment, and forward-thinking companies in sprawling office units.
The NFL Headquarters Building, also known as the M4U building, is part of the Hollywood Park complex. In total, the high-rise structure offers almost 434,000 square feet of office and creative workspace, ready to welcome innovative companies to join the state-of-the-art Hollywood Park community. The West Coast NFL operations and media headquarters occupy three of the structure’s seven floors, using 214,063 square feet of office space and 74,922 square feet of studio and studio support space.
The Project
Bringing this incredible structure to life was no mean feat. It required an all-star team of the best design, engineering, and construction talent in North America to see the project to a successful conclusion.
One of the world-class companies involved in the project was Pankow Builders. Launched by Charles Pankow in 1963, this company’s collaborative, innovative, and efficient approach to building has shaped American skylines to create unique spaces to live, work, learn, and play. We were thrilled when Pankow asked us to help quarterback the detailing, build, and installation of the structure’s rebar and work with some of the best talent in the business.
MSL’s Approach
The sheer complexity of creating this mixed office and media building demanded complete collaboration between all stakeholders, which aligns with the MSL team’s approach to project development. We worked closely with all parties to ensure full transparency and efficiency throughout the scheduling, detailing, logistics, and installation phases. Our team asked many questions and held several team huddles to ensure everyone followed the same playbook throughout the project’s lifecycle.
When the COVID-19 pandemic struck, we ensured that this period of uncertainty would cause a fumble on the play. Our entire team of designers, engineers, fabricators, and installers pitched in to focus on the safety of their colleagues and other stakeholders to keep the project moving forward toward completion.
The Results
MSL completed the project, installing over 2,500 tons of concrete and steel to help support this innovative structure. The NFL Headquarters Building opened on September 8, 2021, broadcasting its first show, NFL GameDay Kickoff, the next day. It sits adjacent to SoFi Stadium, another architectural marvel MSL was also proud to have worked on.
Our passion is working on projects that add culture, fun, and excitement to American cities. The NFL Headquarters Building is another example of how when multiple players work together, great things can happen.
